​Meet Marcell Kustos, PhD
​
Marcell Kustos is the head sommelier and wine buyer at Penfolds Magill Estate and wine educator at TAFE SA, who holds a PhD in food, wine and emotion pairing. 

His talents in product development, winemaking, sensory marketing, and academic knowledge in flavour chemistry paired with his entrepreneurial spirit have driven him to be a curator of memorable wine experiences. 

​His innovative, science-driven approach earned him the 2016 Wine Australia Research Scholarship, 2019 Sommeliers Australia Education Scholarship, 2020 ASVO Scholarship for AWAC, 2020 Vinitaly International Academy Scholarship and a nomination for the 2018 Gault Millau Sommelier of the Year Award. 

Marcell is actively involved in wine education, research and show judging, and has been contributing to the Wine Business Magazine and Wine Titles journals by translating complex wine research data to easy-to-digest articles and industry implications. 

Marcell is a committee member of Sommeliers Australia.
